MS 150 bike ride

Submitted by ai1p on Tue, 07/29/2008 - 15:01

The Multiple Sclerosis 150 bike ride (Aug 23-24) will be coming through Story County (Cambridge and Maxwell, see schedule below). Dan Miller is coordinating communications; note in his message below the proposed use of the 440 link system. If you are appropriately equipped and can help on one of these days, please let me know. I'll be out of town Aug 5 - 19, so during that time, contact Dan direct (phone numbers and email below).

Thanks.

> The MS 150 will be on August 23 and 24 this year. They plan on riding from Des Moines (start at DMACC in Ankeny) and ride to Marshalltown. They will overnight in Marshalltown and return on Sunday to DMACC. The Cedar Rapids MS society is combining their ride with Des Moines, and will ride from Cedar Rapids to Marshalltown and then return Sunday. The Cedar Rapids office is supposed to be handling their end. >From the route they have chosen, it appears that the only good way to run communications is to use the 440 link system. I will try and contact the owners to let them know what is going on, and get their ok for it's use. Since they will be going through your county, I thought it only appropriate to inform you and let you handle the rest areas in your county. With the price of gas, it might be easier to get local Hams than to require a lot of travel. I do have a very sketchy map of the route, but hope to get a better one before the event. I haven't got all of the details yet but am trying to pry it out of them. The gal that is putting this together is new this year, as our previous contact person has moved on to bigger and better things. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me. > As for a "Net Control" or base of operations, I haven't got that figured out yet. Possibly a dual set-up in Des Moines and Marshalltown. There will also be shadows for officials and operators for sag wagons. I don't know how many at this time. Just want to give you a heads up on what is coming up.
