March 2016 SCARC meeting

The next meeting of the Story County Amateur Radio Club will be Thursday, March 3, 2016, at 7:30 pm. The meeting will be in the Bessie Myers Auditorium on the first floor of Mary Greeley Medical Center (MGMC). The business meeting will start at 7:30 pm and the program will start promptly at 8:00 pm. Any unfinished business will be continued after the program. From Mid-March to Mid-April 2016, a multidisciplinary team of scientists and amateur radio operators will visit Heard Island, in the south Indian Ocean. Heard Island is one of the most remote, desolate places on the Earth. There has been no ham radio activity from the island since 1997. In celebration of the upcoming expedition to Heard Island, the SCARC March program will be a video, produced professionally by James Brooks (9V1YC) that focuses on the history, geography, and wildlife on the island, but also documents parts of the 1997 scientific/ham radio expedition to Heard Island. We will also see a few short excepts from a second video documenting the 1997 expedition, but focusing on the DXpedition and we will see and interviews with at least one of the well-known DXpeditioner on that trip.
