October 2016 SCARC Meeting

The Thursday, October 6 meeting of the Story County Amateur Radio Club will feature Clint Miller, KC0JUO, who serves as the club’s Communications Manager. Clint will discuss Emergency Communications, including such topics as the Iowa ARES training task book, personal/family emergency preparedness, and the preparation of go-kits.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in North Conference Rooms A and B on the first floor of Mary Greeley Medical Center. Parking is available near the north entrance.

This meeting is free and open to the public; annual memberships are available for $10 each.

September 2016 SCARC meeting

The next regular SCARC meeting will be held on Thursday, September 1, at 7:30 PM in Conference Room North A-B, Mary Greeley Medical Center. There will be a short business meeting followed by the annual ‘show-and-tell’ program where members will share new gear, hamfest finds, or interesting radio-related activities.

Members are reminded that the $10 annual dues should be submitted at the September meeting.

The closest parking is in the lot north of the ER and ambulance garage. Enter through the North Door where MGMC meets McFarland Clinic.

SCARC events for August, September

SCARC will hold a potluck picnic on Sunday, August 14 beginning at 5:00 PM at the Moore Memorial Park, while the next regular club meeting will be held on Thursday, September 1, at 7:30 PM in Conference Room North A-B of Mary Greeley Medical Center.

We have reserved the Coneflower Shelter at Moore Memorial Park (3050 Northridge Pkwy in northwest Ames). Please bring family and friends – this is intended to be an informal social event, and ALL are welcome! No sign-up or RSVP is required.
Please bring one or more main course dishes (and maybe a side dish!) to share along with place settings (plates, silverware, napkins, etc.) and non-alcoholic beverages for your group. Drinking water and Dutch oven cobbler will be provided. There is limited electrical service at the shelter.
The potluck will be preceded by a foxhunt starting at 2:00pm, courtesy of KC0JUO.
AD0KX is tentatively planning to bring an HF radio for some informal portable HF operation.
We’ll have lots of socializing, fun, and good food. Please plan to attend!
