Our May club meeting will have several parts: a Solar Eclipse Show and Tell with stories from the 2024 solar eclipse, the Solar Eclipse QSO Party, and report on propagation impacts; an update on Field Day 2024 activities; and the annual election of club officers.

Paul Cowley W0YR will deliver a presentation titled "From cockpit to ham shack: understanding and decoding ACARS communications"
Paul's presentation will help you learn more about ACARS (Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System) and how you can receive and decode ACARS messages from aircraft on HF, VHF, and L-Band microwave frequencies. He will cover a brief explanation of what ACARS messages are used for, and how you can send decoded messages to aviation community aggregation sites.

SCARC Vice-President Pat Rundall will deliver a presentation about Ham Radio Science Citizen Investigation (HamSCI) and the 2024 Solar Eclipse QSO Party
Pat's presentation will help you learn about HamSCI and ham radio involvement with citizen science. Hear how HamSCI plans to use ham radio events - a QSO Party, WSPR nodes, medium and long wave monitoring, Grape WWV receivers - to study the ionosphere during the upcoming North American total solar eclipse, April 8, 2024. Brief discussion of observations made during the October, 2023 annular solar eclipse.
